Here's the not-so-fun reality. Almost every couple fights about money during the wedding planning process. Even people with a lot of money can find the expenses getting away from them, and so people with a lot less have a difficult time stretching the money to fit. And now that we're in a recession, it may feel foolhardy to spend what you were planning to spend. So how do you get around that? Use Black Friday and the Holiday sales to work to your advantage. During the holidays, and during every other time, it's better to be using your time working together and building up successes to celebrate. The 60s were not all wrong with their "Make Love, Not War" slogans! More love making and less fighting makes for a much more fun wedding (and marriage.). So, see what you can do:
- As you make your plans to do your holiday shopping, take a good look at your wedding list. What had you planned to buy and what had you planned to rent? Copy that list along with prices. Remember the gift list for important support people during the wedding. Now is a great time to get sparkly bridesmaid jewelry at a good price. Or your alcohol.
- Go together, or divvy the list up according to who shops for what in your partnership.
- Take your list with you as you hit the mall or your local independent stores.
- See what shows up on holiday discount that fits what's on your list.
- Do not be seduced into buying things that ARE NOT on your list , just because they're cheap. That's how budgets get lost.
- If you're taking care of some part of the food, is the wedding close enough that you can buy food and take advantage of the holiday sales? (You do need to have storage!)
- Experience the headache success of checking things off your wedding list.
Then go home and spend time planning your wedding ceremony and dreaming of the marriage you want to create. Once you have those dreams, start building wedding vows that will help you make your marriage goals reachable ones. Live into the future - and take advantage of the Black Friday and holiday sales.
